Property experts call on Lagos govt. to reduce charge on registering land, others

lagos-homs-1TVC E, BUSINESS – Property law experts have urged the Lagos State government to reduce the cost of registering land and other property documentation.

The statement was made at a workshop on the Lagos State Land Registration Law 2015 organised by the Department of private and property Law, University of Lagos (UNILAG).

A former federal commissioner of works, Femi Okunnu said fees charged at the land registry should be minimal so that people can afford to register their properties.

According to the Dean of Faculty of Law, Unilag, Professor Akin Ibidapo Obe, the purpose of registration is not mainly to generate revenue but for management and regulatory purposes, while the essence of taxation is revenue generation.
