Lagos state records first death from Lassa Fever

lassa feverTVC E, NEWS – Barely one week after the first case of Lassa Fever was recorded in Lagos; one of the 15 confirmed cases in the state has died.

The health commissioner, Dr. Jide Idris who confirmed the death said out of the fifteen suspected cases of Lassa in Lagos, three were confirmed positive until the first death.

In his own reaction, Commissioner for the Environment, Mr.Samuel Adejare emphasized the state government’s campaign that residents should embrace hygienic practices in their homes, offices and public places in order to put the deadly disease at bay.

The first Lassa Fever case was recorded at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba after a 25-old student of Ahmadu Bello University who reportedly traveled down to Lagos was admitted in a private hospital in an area called Ahmadiyya in Ojokoro.

The patient was later transferred to LUTH after it was confirmed that the health condition was Lassa.

Three new cases of the Lassa disease have also been confirmed by the  ministry of health in Plateau State.

This development is coming weeks after, the virus spread to the State.

The commissioner for health in the State Kuden Kamshak has confirmed to TVC NEWS that two Lassa Fever victims in Bauchi state have been traced back to Plateau state.

The state government in collaboration with the national orientation agency has embarked on a sensitization campaign to enlighten rural dwellers on how to prevent contracting the disease.
