NDLEA nabs 60-year old monarch for drug trafficking

TVC E. A 60-year old Samuel Agu a monarch was apprehended by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)

He was nabbed on Friday, last week for alleged possession of 12kg bags of Indian hemp. He was reported to have cultivated and harvested the illegal drug on his farm.

Mr Agu oversees the affairs of Koje community in Eggon local government area of Nasarawa state.

The 60-year old monarch, Mr Samuel Agu and the 12kg bags of the Indian Hemp discovered While parading the culprit at the command office of the NDLEA at the state capital, Lafia, yesterday.

The NDLEA commander in the state, Mr Sumaila Ethan stated: “We arrested Mr. Samuel Agu, the village head with bags of Cannabis sativa weighing about 12 kg. The village head confessed that he had been getting the supply of the Cannabis seeds from a Fulani herdsman, the weed seized from him was the remnant of what he harvested from his farm. “The village head, who is expected to live an exemplary life style that is worthy of emulation, was the same person selling Cannabis for consumption.”

Ethan added that, incidents of this nature was rather unfortunate, as people, who were to act as role models and custodians of culture, were involved in unholy acts of drug trafficking, despite the fact that only a few months ago, Nigeria was removed from the list of major drug transit countries by the United States.

The state NDLEA commander further said: “It is pertinent to alert the people of the state and the whole world that, there is an alarming increase in the activities of illicit barons in the state particularly those entrusted with positions of leadership in our rural communities.”
