Make up artist turned actress Dupe Sanni has disclosed that she was once offered the role of a lesbian but she rejected it, owing to her personality.
Dupe in a chat with The Nation disclosed she was offered the role not long after her Nollywood debut.
She said: “It wasn’t really easy because I have gone for several auditions but I wasn’t picked. Though I was not popular, but I felt Nollywood shouldn’t be about the money, but ability to be able to pass the message across to your audience and also to note that they should look at you because of the particular role you play. I remember a director asked me if I could play the role of a lesbian, but I rejected it.”
Probably yes, but I am not bothered about that because you have to be able to define your own style and not just about doing any role because my own personality matters a lot.
Reacting to assumptions that taking on the role could have brought her to the consciousness of Nollywood fans, she said:
“I believe when God wants to lift you up, it does not cost him anything to do that. We have all read the story of Olajumoke; the bread seller, who is now a well known super model. I believe I am not too hungry for fame, so long as I can be able to interpret my roles very well.”
