In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, Fayose said President Buhari was far from being a clean man. Fayose’s statement on Aisha’s involvement comes on the heels of a development in which the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) had to freeze his account.

A source was also said to have disclosed that the governor’s account in Zenith Bank in Ekiti as well as those of some of his associates were also frozen by the anti-graft agency. After visiting the bank at Onigari, GRA area of the state capital, Fayose described the action as illegal and while citing section 308 of the 1999 constitution, the governor stated that the federal government should fight corruption within the ambit of the law, since he enjoys immunity as a sitting governor.

He said: “I got mind of the fact that the EFCC had placed restriction order on my personal account and that of my associates. I came here today and I have been able to see it. This action shows that this government has no respect for the constitution because I enjoy immunity under Section 308.

“I support government fighting corruption, but it has to be within the ‎ambit of the law. You can investigate me, it is their right, but they have to wait till 2018, because I will be done by then.

They should not be in a hurry because I will personally come to them for investigation.” In reaction to Fayose’s comments, the EFCC has said that immunity does not stop the commission from investigating suspicious account belonging to any governor.

Wilson Uwujaren, the spokesman for the EFCC in reaction to the governor’s immunity claims, said the immunity being enjoyed by any governor does not prevent the commission from investigating suspicious movements of money into their accounts. Meanwhile, in reply to Fayose’s accusation, Aisha Buhari reportedly called the governor a dog, a mad one at that.

She went on to threaten that the Ekiti state governor must take back his words or face her personally in court. While the dance of Aisha and Fayose was still on, a case of election funding scandal cropped-up.

The EFCC had on Monday, June 20, frozen two personal accounts of the governor and one belonging to his company, Spotless Investments, in the course of its investigations into N4.7billion Fayose allegedly received from the Office of the National Security Adviser during his election campaign in 2014.

Fayose denied receiving any money, claiming it was Zenith Bank that majorly funded his campaign. However, Zenith Bank denied its involvement in Fayose’s governorship campaign.

It was in the wake of this that Fayose challenged Zenith Bank to come out with an official statement showing the bank’s denial about funding his election in 2014 The governor referred APC, Zenith bank and the EFCC some Bible verses, saying he stands by his claim that the bank majorly funded in election in June 2014.

With the entire drama getting messier by the day degenerating into the kneeling of alleged Bank officials before Fayose, Nigerians took to social media to speak on the highly controversial issue. Below are some reactions of Nigerians to the dirty dance within Nigeria’s corridors of power. “I believe Nigeria needs an investigative public hearing on the roles of Nigeria’s corporations in politics,to expose their relationships with politicians.

Because if a bank can use depositors’ funds to finance an election, then there is a problem with us.It is irresponsible, unethical and illegal. Who knows this might be one of the reasons banks fail and throw people out of jobs without benefits?
