What top Rep member thinks about Buhari’s ‘controversial’ anti-corruption war

TVC E. Abdulmumin Jibrin, who chairs the committee on appropriation of the House of Representatives, has begged members of the National Assembly to support President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption war.

Jibrin’s reaction came shortly after the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the National Assembly withdrew their support for the government of President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday.

Only 15 senators also passed a voted of confidence on the president.

In a statement made available to reporters by his media office, the legislator said: “It’s within anyone’s right to decide not to support the president, but he’ll continue to enjoy the total support of majority of us in NASS. “Let us not mix the commitment and anti-corruption stand of the gov’t with politics.”

Abdulmumin, representing Kiru/Bebeji federal constituency of Kano state, pleaded with Nigerians to support the president adding: “I’d like to implore Nigerians, especially my colleagues in the National Assembly to leave the president with respect to the war on corruption.”

There were earlier reports that some legislators cancelled a dinner with President Buhari, probably as a result of the ongoing crisis between the presidency and the National Assembly.

The federal government had also promised that Bukola Saraki, the Senate president, and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, would get fair trial in the forgery case against them.

But the lawmaker urged members of the National Assembly not to distract the president. “We must not distract the president but instead give him all the support to continue the good work he has started for the country,” he said while calling on agencies of government to respect the rule of law.

“I urge the anti corruption agencies to ensure they always abide by the rule of law and the principles of justice and fairness.

“We must all support them and not politicise things when the radar of the agencies are focused on us. Nigeria must always come first. “It is petty and predictable to throw blames at the president when all the anti-corruption agencies are doing is what is prescribed by the law,” he said.

So what do you think?
