DSS releases one Judge, others still in Custody

The Department of State Services has released Justice Sylvester Ngwuta, one of the Supreme Court judges it arrested during a raid on the homes of some judges in a move to uncover proceeds of corruption.

Two other judges are still in the custody of the service. Briefing news men at the headquarters of the secret police an official of  the agency said the action was based on allegations of corruption and unprofessional conduct brought against the judges

Abdullahi Garba who disclosed that the serving justices involved are those of the supreme and appeal courts and judges of the high court refused to give the names of those involved.

The DSS official said credible intelligence revealed that a particular judge had 2 million USD stashed in his house but attempts by operatives of the service to search his house met with stiff resistance by thugs mobilised by a state governor

He put the money recovered at the end of the day from three judges at well more than 93 million naira, 530 thousand  USD, 25, 970 pounds sterling, and 5,680 Euro
