Ooni to partake in Olaniwun Ajayi’s burial— Family

ajayi-with-his-children-and-grandchildrenTVC E. The Family of late Afenifere chieftain, Sir Olaniwun Ajayi, who died at the age of 91 on Friday has disclosed that the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi Enitan has shown interest in the burial ceremony of their patriarch.

The nephew of the late nonagerian, Adebari Ajayi disclosed this to Vanguard on phone, saying, the monarch has called the family to show interest in the process of giving the late Ajayi a befitting burial. The nephew, who said the Ooni put a call to the first son of the Afenifere chieftain, yesterday, quoted the monarch as saying the burial of their patriarch was beyond the family affairs.

He however, disclosed that the family was planning to meet the monarch at his palace today on how to give late Olaniwun Ajayi a befitting burial. Meanwhile, Governor of Oyo state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has described the death of the leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, Sir Ajayi Olaniwun, as a huge blow and decimation of hierarchy of true Yoruba leadership.

He said this in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Mr. Yomi Layinka, yesterday. Describing the deceased as a rare, committed and disciplined leader of repute, the governor said although the Isara Remo-born Yoruba leader passed on at a ripe age of 91, he noted that he died when the country was in dire need of sages required to proffer solutions to the myriads of its socio-economic challenges.

Also, former Speaker of House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole and the Speaker of Ogun state House of Assembly, Suraj Adekunbi have described the late Ajayi as an elder statesman who used his resources for the development of Yorubaland. Bankole in his tribute said pa Olaniwun Ajayi will be sorely missed by the people of the state and Nigeria at large .

He described the death of pa Ajayi as very shocking and unfortunate, saying the country needed the contribution of the nonagenarian at this moment when he left. In his remarks, Adekunbi said entire members of the state House of Assembly morun the death of the leader of Yoruba race. Adekunbi said pa Ajayi, though lived a well spent life, his demise this moment shocks the people of the state . Also, the former People Democratic Party governorship candidate in 2015 , Gboyega Isiaka and a member of House of Representatives representing Remo-North, Ladi Adebutu visited his Isara-Remo home, and met with he family member.
