Nick Gordon, Bobbi Kristina‘s boyfriend, has been ordered  by an Atlanta to pay the sum of thirty six million dollars in damages after he was found guilty of causing her tragic death in January of 2015.

Bobbi Kristina was found face down in a bathtub in her Georgia home on Jan. 31, 2015. After spending nearly six months in a coma, she died in hospice care last July 26 at the age of 22.

The family had accused Gordon of injecting her with the drugs that caused her death. He denied the claims and the courts could not determine if he indeed deliberately killed her. However a civil court found him guilty and asked to pay damages:  $1.575 million for money taken from the account, including alleged stolen rings; $250,000 in punitive damages; $1.37 million for assault and battery; $13.8 million for pain and suffering as a result of assault; $4.2 million in punitive damages; and $15 million for present value of life.

It is not clear what the fate of Nick Gordon, whom Whitney Houston raised as her own son, will be in the likely event that he is unable to raise the funds required for settling the case.

Gordon was not present in court on Friday as a number of people testified, including Brown and his daughter, La’Princia Brown. One of Bobbi Kristina’s close childhood friends also testified, along with an economist, who determined her net worth and future potential income.

“Nick has been heartbroken and destroyed over the loss of his love and it’s shameful that such baseless allegations have been presented publicly,” the statement reads. “Nick has engaged civil counsel and intends to defend the lawsuit vigorously and expose it for what it is: a fictitious assault against the person who loved Krissy most.”
