Army to minimise collateral damage in northeast

The Nigerian Army has identified the need to minimize collateral damages suffered in the North-east region as a result of the activities of Boko Haram insurgents.

The call was made during the opening of a course on collateral damage at the Army resource centre targeted at training and enlightening military officers in the war front.

In 2014, Nigeria recorded the second highest number of deaths related to terrorism worldwide after Iraq, with over 7,512 people killed.

With the help of the British Military Assistance Training ( BMATT), the Nigerian Army says it’s imperative to move the military strategy from merely fighting terrorist to a holistic people- centred approach.

It is expected that checking the extent of collateral damage on individuals and communities in the northeast will not only help liberate communities but is also crucial for the operational effectiveness of the fight against terrorism.
