Ondo INEC insists election will not be shifted

The Independent National Electoral Commission says that Saturday’s Governorship Election in Ondo State will hold as scheduled.
INEC’s Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu stated this at the Stakeholder’s Meeting on the election with the theme “State of Readiness and General Conduct of the Election”.

Mahmood added that there is no other ground in law to postpone the election, stressing that six resident electoral commissioners will be posted to the state for the election.

He noted that security agents should not escort any voter on the election day, no matter the status of the voter in the society.

He added that the electoral body is ready to obey court judgement  in the crisis rocking the PDP over who should be the party’s standard bearer.

On his part, the Inspector-General of Police,  Ibrahim Idris said 26,000 officers and men would be deployed to monitor the election while five policemen will be at each polling unit across the state.

He said there would be restriction of movement from 12am to 8pm on Saturday adding that all policemen attached to some politicians  would be withdrawn from them.

Idris disclosed that the police had put up elaborate arrangements to ensure that the election is conducted under peaceful atmosphere.
