Yemi Alade’s ‘Mama Africa’ album wins at the Independent Music Awards

Yemi Alade‘s Mama Africa album has won the award for Best Album (World Beat) at the 15th edition of the Independent Music Awards which held at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York.

The Independent Music Awards celebrate and award independent artistes across the globe, in various genres ranging from children’s music to hip-hop.

The singer won the award after beating off competition from Melodic Intersect, Tori Sparks, Jaime Cuadra and Ukukus Brothers, as well as Gao Hong.

Yemi Alade’s latest win comes after being named the Best Female Act at the MTV Africa Music Awards in October.
