Actress Reese Witherspoon has urged mums to “rise above” any criticism they receive from others over their parenting skills.
The Academy Award-winner, who has three children of her own, has compassion for the struggles of motherhood, noting the ups and downs of raising a child has a very complex impact on the psyche of a parent.
“Every woman feels guilty if they’re working or guilty if they’re staying home all the time,” she tells Glamour.com. “There are all sorts of factors in between about economics and what each family needs. Actually my next show, Big Little Lies, (premiering on HBO in February, 2017) has a lot to do with that and about the complexity of women’s lives and the choices they have to make that affect their self-esteem and their marriage and their family.”
Reese went on to offer mothers who may be having difficulty handling maternal duties some encouragement with a little bit of advice: “You have to just live your life and make your own choices,” she shares. “Every family is different, and every family has to make their own choices, based on their circumstances. You have to rise above any negativity and know that you’re doing the right thing for your family.”
