‘Southern Kaduna crisis fueled by rumours’

TVC E. Convener of the Southern Kaduna Peace Initiative and President, Community for Peace and Corrupt-Free Society (CPCFS), Engineer Ahmed Zakari Nguroje has said rumours and unsubstantiated claims are mainly responsible for the recent crisis rocking Southern Kaduna

He stated this while delivering a welcome address at the Southern Kaduna Peace Initiative, an interactive session held in Kafanchan at the weekend.

According to him, both parties involved in the conflict act based on hear say and end up regretting their actions after it is done.

“For you the people of Southern Kaduna, I want to urge you to always confirm your information before believing what you heard. If someone runs to you to tell you that Fulanis are planning to attack you, confront the leader of the Fulani and ask him. In that way you will prevent the loss of lives and property. And for the Fulani people, if you hear any information about an attack, go to the village head or district head and relay what you heard,” he said.

He explained that those spreading rumours are the real enemies of peace, not the Southern Kaduna people or the Fulani herdsmen.

Engineer Nguroje advised the Fulani herdsmen to always ensure they fish out their members whose cattle invade people’s farms and destroy crops, as that is also another way to build peaceful co-existence.

Charging the farmers to always embrace peaceful solutions in addressing such cases when they occur, he said that the federal government is being overstretched when funds ought to be use in developing infrastructure is channeled into funds for issues related to crisis.
