The Federal Government’s efforts to diversify Nigeria’s economy has received a major boost with the discovery of coal deposit in commercial quantity in Sokoto State.
Governor Aminu Tambuwal said a Chinese company has already been engaged to research available mineral resources, determine their locations and commercial viability.
He said the company has presented the first phase of its findings and identified 20 varieties of solid minerals.
Tambuwal added that the Cement Company of Northern Nigeria otherwise known as Sokoto Cement has started using the substance as a source of energy in operating its plant.
