Mario Balotelli given red card for Nice after ‘insulting’ referee

Mario Balotelli’s third red card of the season was down to using insulting English language, according to the match official who dismissed him.

Former Liverpool and Manchester City forward Balotelli was sent off in Nice’s 1-0 win over Lorient on Sunday after a confrontation with referee Tony Chapron.

“He insulted me in English,” Chapron told L’Equipe following the game when explaining his decision. “I won’t say more but it was something classical.”
