Appeal Court nullifies impeachment of Ondo former deputy governor

The court of Appeal sitting in Akure has cancelled his impeachment of Ondo State former deputy governor, Ali Olanusi, describing the entire exercise as illegal.

TVC’s Ayodeji Moradeyo reports that former deputy Governor was impeached on ApriI 27, 2015 by the state house of assembly.

His impeachment followed a report submitted by a panel set up by the immediate past government which indicted him. But the Appeal court sitting in Akure has faulted his removal.

The court held that olanusi’s impeachment by the Ondo State House of Assembly was not done in accordance with provisions of the law.

In his judgement, Justice Muhammed Danjuma, said Olanusi was impeached without a recourse to due process and the laws of the land.

He also held that the former deputy governor was not accorded fair hearing before he was impeached by the Assembly.

Justice Danjuma subsequently ordered the restoration of the rights and privileges due to Alhaji Olanusi from the time of his removal from office to the period his tenure ended.

Olanusi while addressing reporters after the judgement described the judiciary as the hope of the common man.  With this development, Olanusi is expected to receive his entitlements and retirement benefits.
