I can speak to the president through social media – Chidi Okereke

Digital communication specialist and social media influencer, Chidi okereke ,fondly called the master of open letters was a guest at TVC’s Entertainment breakfast show, #WakeUpNigeria.

Chidi Okereke who help brands and public services connect with their target audiences and tell better stories using Social and Digital media, says social media is a great platform to influence change in the society.

In a chat with #WakeUpNigeria’s hosts, Yomi and Titi, Chidi talks about his open letters to government officials, He said; “One may not be able to meet with the president or governor in person, but your letters might be able to do that. Writing open letters are ways to compel change or resist what isn’t good for the society.”

When asked about the ongoing ASUU strike, Chidi commented;

“I’m sorry to say that the nation has failed many of us, but this is not a time to give up. There are a lot of organisations that are willing to employ students. Students shouldn’t sit in one place, they should go out and do something meaningful.”

Chidi also talked about how he has used social media to raise funds for people who needed it. “You see something and it strikes you and you just want to make a change. Despite the economic situation, Nigerians still want to help and social media has helped in raising funds”

Reacting to how people scam others raising funds through social media, he said; “It’s sad how people try to scam others and I understand when people are skeptical about raising funds on social media. What I do is, I try as much as possible to be sincere and open in my dealings.”
