Alex Iwobi withdraws from 2018 World Cup qualifying match

Arsenal striker, Alex Iwobi has been ruled out of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against African champions Cameroon in Uyo.

According to reports, the forward withdrew from the squad after suffering a thigh muscle strain while training with his Premier League team.

Iwobi was also out of Arsenal’s squad that were completely decimated by Liverpool on Sunday, August 27, in a tough Premier League tie at Anfield.

He will also miss the Super Eagles’ return leg encounter with African champions Cameroon on September 4, 2017 in Yaounde.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles handler Gernot Rohr has replaced Alex Iwobi with CSKA Moscow striker Aaron Samuel and he is expected to arrive at the Eagles camp on Monday, August 28.

Nigeria are currently leading the Group B of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers African zone with 6 points after winning their first two games against Zambia and Algeria.
