Nigeria’s first Gold Medalist becomes an Assistant Commissioner of Police

Nigeria’s first and only Gold Medalist, Chioma Ajunwa Okpara, has been promoted as an Assistant Commissioner of Police, by the Police Service Commission, which took place at the Police college at Ikeja, as reported by ‘Thisday’.

This promotion after a week of Ajuwa-Okpara, a foundation launch to discover new stars that will take the Nigerian nation to new heights.

The proud athlete was promoted from a Chief Suprintendent of Police to an Assistant Commissioner of Police.

Chioma Ajunwa – is a Nigerian former athlete who specialized in the long jump. After various setbacks in her career she achieved fame when she became the first athlete in her country to win an Olympic gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, and till date remains Nigeria’s only individual Olympic gold medalist
