The key to raising a well-rounded child is to establish a solid support system at home, therefore your goal as a parent is to help your child feel competent and confident, and to help them develop a sense of passion and purpose. Raising a child can be tricky because parents try to make sure their children don’t make mistakes but mistakes are part of life

Parents need to understand they cannot completely protect their children from the challenges of life, however they need to learn how to prepare their children for these challenges. Personal and parenting coach, Izefua Ehia-Williams shared parenting tip on ‘how to tolerate your child’s mistakes’ on #WakeUpNigeria. Mistakes are wonderful opportunities to learn. If we look through history, we will find that a lot of things that have come about were products of  mistakes and errors. Even in our personal lives as adults, we find out that if we look back, who we have become has a lot to do with out mistakes, the lessons we have learnt from them and how we have been able to use them. However there are things that we go through as adults that we are not getting the benefit of because we have not learnt how to bounce back after a mistake.”

She went on to advice parents on how to handle their children when they make mistakes. Izefua disclosed that parents don’t give their children enough room to learn from situations of life, according to her;

A lot of times we get upset, we show all that emotion but we don’t use the opportunity. In most cases parents tidy up their children’s mistakes but they get mad at the child, however that is perfect opportunity for you to teach the child how to handle their mistakes. When you take over from the child when he/she makes a mistake, you steal the opportunity for the child to learn, because that is where the subject of discipline lie.

Children panic when they mess up, our role as parents is to help our children deal with what is within and how to respond to it. It is so important especially as our children are growing”
