Chelsea vs. Barcelona: Conte defends Christensen’s error

Chelsea may have almost played the perfect game last night against Barcelona, but for a little error from defender Andreas Christensen.

Conte’s choice of defender came under scrutiny during his post-match press conference, his choice of starting the game with Andreas Christensen in place of Gary Cahill was questioned.

Christensen’s error which caused the blues a 1-1 draw with Barcelona as their first leg of their Champions League, was defended by Chelsea’s boss.

Responding to questions about the mistake Chistensen made, Conte said: “I think Christensen’s performance was a very good performance. At the age of 21, I think his performance was incredible.

“Christensen is one of the best player tonight. It is very difficult to pick one player or another player but I think he played a top game.”

Christensen’s has had an impressive performance during his appearance for the Blues but his mistake at Stamford Bridge yesterday led to Lionel Messi’s 75th minute equalising goal for Barcelona. The 21-year-old played a misplaced pass across his 18-yard box which allowed Iniesta break into the box and lay a pass to Messi which gave a lovely finish. The goal is Messi’s first goal against the blues.
