Hot Topic: Nigerians who complain of hunger are lazy – Hameed Ali

Only lazy Nigerians complain of hunger , says Hameed Ali

The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Hameed Ali, has on Tuesday made a controversial statement, that Nigerians complaining of hunger under the Buhari Government are lazy.

Ali said this at the Presidential Villa in Abuja when he led members of the Buhari Support Group (BSG) to a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari where they declared their support for the 2019 Presidential ambition of Buhari.

Thrashing out this controversial statement by the comptroller General of Nigerian customs service, The ladies of Your View have joined numerous Nigerians, including the live audience present during the show to  air their opinions on the subject matter.

A member of the live audience was of the notion that it is easy for politicians to make such statements because of their positions and if tables were turned, they wouldn’t attempt to say such.

Tope said, as much as we want to encourage people to maximize opportunities and start businesses, we should take note that “not everybody can become an entrepreneur…not everybody has the resilience to stick to the business and the environment itself is not convenient for entrepreneurs to flourish.”

However, Nyma said that if Nigerians would “see beyond all the difficulties”  they will possibly make extra income for themselves and stop complaining.

According to her, she knows some business owners who could “make the excuse that things are difficult in Nigeria” but they market themselves and are doing well.

In her opinion as well as that of Morayo, some people are still making it in this economy, therefore people should quit the popular argument that the environment is not favorable.

In Nyma’s words, “the definition of success has been twisted. Quick success is now what you call success. Constant income is no longer success to people…Nigeria has had unemployment problem since 1984, it is not going to get away overnight. By now, people should start to think of extra ways of doing things except a paid job”

Mariam, in her statement mentioned that these days, there is little or no dignity in labor, a lot of people do not want to do such jobs like ‘househelp’ because it’s too menial. This prompted Morayo to ask her if she would be a ‘househelp’ if push comes to shove (things get hard or tough) and she responded thus; “If push comes to shove, I would do anything I have to do to take care of myself and my family”.
