Kanye West reveals he was diagnosed with a 'mental illness' at 39

Kanye West has revealed he was diagnosed with a mental illness at 39. He went further to say mental illness made him say slavery was a choice for blacks. The rapper just recently dropped an album titled ‘Ye’.

40-year-old Kanye West who has been involved in controversies recently, surrounding his vocal support of Donald Trump and other societal issues including calling slavery a choice has disclosed he was diagnosed with a mental illness at 39 and explained how blessed and privileged he is not withstanding his condition.

West talked about his diagnosis in an interview with radio personality Big Boy after debuting his new album, “Ye,” at a listening party in Wyoming’s Jackson Hole on Thursday. In the interview, West touched the prominence of mental health disorders in America, using Language that mental health awareness advocates may have found a powerful friend in the celebrity.

West revealed he has bipolar disorder and he doesn’t view it as a disadvantage. On the track “Yikes”, his lyrics states,

“That’s my bipolar shit, adding, “That’s my superpower n–, aint no disability”.

Kanye said he created a completely different album after the backlash from his comments on TMZ last month. He added that he felt  blessed and even with his mental struggles, he can come back from the controversy that arose because of his slavery comments.

When asked why he named his album “Ye,” he explained:

“I believe ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible. And in the Bible, it means ‘you.’ So … I’m you. I’m us. It’s us … I’m just more of a reflection of who we are.”
