Mourinho’s advice to Lampard: ‘Infuse a bit of experience’

Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has urged Frank Lampard to infuse a bit of experience in the Chelsea team that will battle Liverpool for the UEFA Super Cup title.

The two Premier League teams will meet for the first time this season following their triumph in Europe last campaign. Jurgen Klopp’s men lifted the Champions League title, while the west London side were victorious in the Europa League after demolishing Arsenal in the final of the tournament.

However, the Blues’ 4-0 defeat to Man United at Old Trafford in Sunday’s EPL outing was a major concern for the former Chelsea boss, who claims Lampard’s squad was too soft and inexperienced when speaking as a pundit for Sky Sports. Mourinho criticised Chelsea boss for sitting the likes of N’golo Kante, Olivier Giroud and Marcos Alonso on the bench.

Meanwhile, the three-time Premier League winning coach wants his former side to move on from that defeat and bounce back against the Reds this mid-week. The 56-year-old believes the experienced Marcos Alonso and Olivier Giroud getting a look in, along with Kante despite concerns over his fitness will give them some level of competitiveness. “Chelsea were too soft, not compact defensively, not aggressive enough, there was too much space between the lines. They did not press in blocks.” Mourinho said while making his Sky Sports punditry debut. “If Kante can play 30-35 minutes he can start the game. And then if he lasts only one hour then he lasts one hour.

Mourinho gave his insight on a perfect starting lineup Chelsea must implement against Liverpool to get a positive result.
