The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has ordered a probe into the rape allegation levelled against Dapo Oyebanjo a.k.a D’banj by Seyitan Babatayo.
According to reports, the IGP ordered the probe following a petition written by Seyitan’s lawyer Mr. Tommy Ojoge-Daniel.
If you would recall, Seyitan’s friend, Benjamin Ese, had alleged that D’banj raped her in 2018 in a hotel; an allegation Seyitan verified with a series of tweets and Instagram posts.
D’Banj’s team then released a statement denying the accusations, describing them as a calculated attempt to ruin the music star’s long-standing character and career. Seyitan was then asked to make a public apology and pay D’banj the sum of one hundred million naira in damages.
Just last week, the whole issue took a new turn when Seyitan was reportedly detained by the Nigerian police force, and it was claimed by her lawyers that she was forced to delete her tweets on the rape allegation while in police custody.
The alleged move has now been widely criticised by social media users and celebrities as intimidation and bullying on Dbanj’s part.
