Nigerian singer/songwriter John Oluseun Abisagboola, popularly known as Bankulli, and British Ghanaian musician and producer Julian Nicco-Annan, a.k.a Juls, have been chosen to be among the two thousand three hundred and twenty one people invited to join the Recording Academy popularly known as The Grammys.
Announcing his invitation Bankulli wrote on his Instagram page, “I have been invited to become a part of the new @RecordingAcademy member class, I’m honored to have an opportunity to celebrate, represent, and give back to the music and its creators. #WeAreMusic#GrammyAwards
Juls also made his own announcement via Twitter where he wrote, “For the culture @RecordingAcademy opportunity to push our music and our culture to the masses all over the world, I’ll take it!”
Others who were invited to join The Academy include rappers Lil Nas X, Gunna and singer Victoria Monet, amongst many others.
Academy interim president, Harvey Mason Jr, shared that the academy is committed to inclusive representation. In his words, “While this progress signifies meaningful impact, there’s still more work to be done.
We will continue to fight to achieve inclusive representation across gender, race, age, national origin, sexual orientation, and beyond within our community.
Furthermore, we are excited to see how the contributions of the incoming new member class will help inspire meaningful change within the music industry”.
