American musical television series Empire will be getting a spinoff soon as actress Taraji P. Henson has inked a new deal with 20th Century Fox.
According to the deal, the spinoff will focus on the life of Taraji’s character, Cookie Lyon and what’s next for her.
Sharing about the deal, 20th Century Fox TV president Carolyn Cassidy wrote, “We were lucky to have a front-row seat to Taraji’s meteoric rise as a fixture on television through Empire. Through that relationship, everyone at the company grew to appreciate her passion for storytelling and her strong creative gut instinct. With Empire finished, we look forward to helping her explore stories that need to be told through her talent and advocacy.”
If you would recall, “Empire” was renewed for its sixth and final season last year following the controversy surrounding Jussie Smollett.
