Bernard Hill, Star of ‘Titanic’ and ‘Lord of the Rings,’ Passes Away at 79

British actor Bernard Hill, celebrated for his unforgettable roles in “Titanic” and “The Lord of the Rings” series, has passed away at 79, confirmed by his agent. His portrayal of Captain Edward Smith in the 1997 Oscar-winning epic “Titanic” and his embodiment of King Théoden in “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy left an indelible mark on cinema.

Hill’s career trajectory was marked by notable performances, including his breakout role as Yosser Hughes in the acclaimed 1982 BBC TV drama “Boys from the Blackstuff.” As Hughes, he depicted the struggles of unemployment in Liverpool with poignant authenticity.

Alan Bleasdale, the writer of “Boys from the Blackstuff,” lamented Hill’s passing as a “great loss and also a great surprise,” praising his mesmerizing portrayal of Yosser Hughes, a performance that showcased Hill’s dedication and talent.
