Blackface Opens Up About Song Theft Allegations Against Wizkid and Olamide

In a recent podcast interview on “The Honest Brunch” featuring the renowned musician Ahmedu Augustine Obiabo, famously known as Blackface, he openly addressed his deep-seated concerns within the Nigerian music industry. “The Honest Brunch” is an audio-visual podcast that delves into contemporary issues relevant to millennials and Gen Z, hosted by Nedu, Husband Material, Deity Cole, and Naomi.

Previous episodes of the podcast had attempted to explore the reasons behind Blackface’s persistent claims of Nigerian artists appropriating his “sounds, rhymes, and vibes.” During the interview, Blackface emphasized, “If you can’t respect copyrights, then don’t copy at all.” He specifically accused Wizkid and Banky W of borrowing lines from his hit song ‘Like the Way.’

The podcast’s hosts suggested that a lack of proper education in the music industry about concepts like copyright infringement might be contributing to such disputes. However, Blackface strongly disagreed, asserting that his fellow Nigerian artists are intentionally involved in such actions.

The artist known for ‘Hardlife’ also maintained that he was the original writer of “African Queen,” made famous by Tuface Idibia. As the interview progressed, the hosts of “The Honest Brunch” explored specific instances of songs associated with Blackface. In response, the artist declared, “Ginger by Wizkid is reminiscent of my song ‘Twist and Turn.’ Olamide has also borrowed numerous elements throughout his career, such as my track ‘Killer.’ He employed the percussion and melody from ‘Killer’ to create ‘Don’t Stop’.”
