Mandisa, Grammy-Winning Christian Singer and ‘American Idol’ Star, Dies at 47

Mandisa, the Grammy-winning Christian singer and former “American Idol” star, died at 47. Her representative confirmed she was found dead in her Nashville home on Thursday. The cause of death is unknown, and her family and friends ask for prayers during this difficult time.

The Christian radio network K-Love celebrated Mandisa, praising her devotion to Jesus and her openness about her struggles. K-Love described her kindness, smile, and powerful voice, stating she is now with the God she sang about.

Mandisa auditioned for Season 5 of “American Idol” in 2005, becoming a fan favorite and finishing in the top nine. Her standout performances included “I’m Every Woman” and “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing.”

After her time on “American Idol,” Mandisa released her debut album, “True Beauty,” in 2007, which topped Billboard’s Christian album chart and reached No. 43 on the Billboard 200. Her other albums include “It’s Christmas” (2008), “Freedom” (2009), “What if We Were Real” (2011), and “Overcomer” (2013), which won her a Grammy for contemporary Christian album.

Mandisa was one of just five “American Idol” alumni to win a Grammy, along with Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, and Tori Kelly.
