“Dust to Dreams”: Idris Elba Set to Direct Upcoming Film Supported by Mo Abudu

Golden Globe winner Idris Elba plans to write and direct an upcoming short film, “Dust to Dreams,” supporting Africa’s creative industry. Mo Abudu backs the project, with music icon Seal and Nollywood actresses Eku Edewor, Atlanta Bridget Johnson, and former Nigerian Idol contestant Constance Olatunde making their film debut.

The collaboration between Elba and Mo Abudu’s EbonyLife Films aims to nurture emerging African talent and boost creative industries across the continent, supported by the African Export-Import Bank’s Creative Africa Nexus program. Mo Abudu will serve as both executive producer and producer.

Set in Lagos, Nigeria, the film explores the relationship between a mother and her teenage daughter as they meet the father for the first time.

Expressing her enthusiasm, Mo Abudu stated, “I am delighted to be working with Afreximbank and this incredibly talented team. ‘Dust to Dreams’ is a story close to my heart, and I’m thrilled to bring it to life with such passionate collaborators.”

Forbes describes Mo Abudu as “Africa’s Most Successful Woman” and ranks her among the “25 Most Powerful Women in Global Television” by The Hollywood Reporter. Meanwhile, Elba made his feature directorial debut with the British crime drama “Yardie” in 2018.
