The founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, has eclipsed French entrepreneur Bernard Arnault to become the world’s richest individual, according to the latest data from the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Bezos now boasts a net worth of $201 billion, marking a $2 billion increase from $199 billion on March 20.
Bezos’ wealth primarily stems from his e-commerce and cloud computing juggernaut, Amazon, along with investments in media and streaming markets. Meanwhile, Arnault experienced a $3 billion drop in net worth within 24 hours, slipping from $202 billion to $199 billion. Despite this decline, Arnault, the owner of luxury conglomerate Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy (LVMH), retains the second spot on the list of the world’s wealthiest individuals.
Arnault is renowned as both an investor and art collector, presiding over an empire of 75 fashion and cosmetics brands, including Sephora. Additionally, he acquired jeweler Tiffany & Co. for $16 billion in 2021. Following closely behind Arnault is Elon Musk, the Tesla magnate, with a net worth of $189 billion.
Rounding out the top five are Mark Zuckerberg, the Facebook founder, with an estimated wealth of $179 billion, and Bill Gates, the Microsoft co-founder, with a fortune of $153 billion.
