Skepta Unveils Premiere Date for Inaugural Directorial Project

British rapper Skepta has revealed the release date for his inaugural directorial venture.

The artist has officially announced that his film, “Tribal Mark,” is scheduled to debut on January 26 at Everyman Cinema. Produced by Skepta’s production company, 1PLUS1, in collaboration with Dwight Okechukwu, the movie narrates the heartfelt journey of a Nigerian immigrant adjusting to life in a foreign land.

Moreover, the plot explores the intricacies of an undercover Black Secret Service. The ensemble cast features a diverse array of emerging Black actors, with Jude Carmichael assuming the pivotal role of the film’s protagonist, Young Mark.

In addition to his directorial debut, the rapper has shared news of his return to the music scene with the release of his inaugural single, ‘Gas Me Up,’ slated to coincide with the premiere of the ‘Tribal Mark’ movie. This single is part of his upcoming studio album, ‘Knife and Fork.’ Prior to the album launch, a pre-release controversy has stirred online. Skepta, in response to allegations that the artwork for his new single, ‘Gas Me Up (Diligent),’ referenced the Holocaust, promptly issued an apology and removed the controversial image.

The artwork featured a group of bald-headed men, with one bearing the phrase “Gas Me Up” tattooed on his head. Concerns were swiftly raised, linking the image to the tragic deaths of Jewish people in Nazi gas chambers during World War Two. Skepta acknowledged the potential for offense caused by the unintended association and expressed regret in his apology.
