Wizkid who had graced the last occasion which was held in Nigeria was confirmed to have missed out on the award ceremony as a result of having a show in the UK on the same day of the event which had been from Sunday the 4th of September till Monday the 5th of September 2022.

This was confirmed by his manager Sunday Are at the event who had stepped on stage to receive his awards.

Burna Boy had been named as one of the major headliners for the ‘Made In America‘ festival 2022 which had also been on the same day as the headies awards.

Wizkid been the biggest winner of the night with Burna Boy also picking 2 awards in major categories as well.

He took to his Twitter account to vent his anger, stating that while he has been one of the most innovative and important creatives in Afrobeats, the Headies Academy has continued to snub him.

He tweeted, “And while I can … I have been a blessing to this Naija music industry for years and will forever be a legend to anybody who chooses to be excellent, exceptional and special in the music space of this continent …. And while the @The_Headies have chosen to ignore me for years …”

He continued, “I will never give up or quit!!! I’m gonna forever leave this world a legend and a blessing to many …!!!

Every single year I come thru and I carry @2niteFlavour @phynofino, @wizkidayo, @davido, @burnaboy, @Olamide and as many as I have been blessed to work with On my back … and I’m still not recognized for whatever reasons best known to the headies is crazy shaaa!!!!

The show which was hosted by American actor and comedian Anthony Anderson and Nollywood actress Osas Ighodaro rolled out some of the awards during the live show while viewers enjoyed live performances from Pheelz, BNXN, Ruger, Asake, Fireboy, Ladipoe, Flavour, D’banj and others.

Leading the nominations list was Wizkid who had eleven nominations followed by Ayra Starr and Tems who had eight nominations each.

The biggest winner of the night was Wizkid with five wins while Patoranking, Davido and Burna Boy won two awards respectively.

Other winners include,

• BNXN won the coveted Next Rated Award after beating the likes of Ayra Starr, Zinoleesky, Lojay and Ruger
• Fave won the Rookie of the Year award
• Ayra Starr won the Viewer’s Choice Award.
• Wizkid hit song ‘Essence’ featuring Tems the Best Collaboration, Song of the year and Best R&B single categories.

He also won the Album of the year with his ‘Made in Lagos – Deluxe Edition Album and Best Afrobeat Album with the same project.

• Patoranking won recording of the year with ‘Celebrate Me’ and best Dancehall/Reggae Album with ‘Three’.
• Burna Boy won the Best Male Artiste Award and also the Best African Artiste of the Year Awards
• Davido won the Digital Artiste of the Year and Humanitarian Award of the year.

Other winners of the night were Adekunle Gold who won the Songwriter of the Year with ‘Sinner’

• Olamide won the Best Rap Album category with his album, Carpe Diem.
• Waje in the Best Vocal Performance Female category with ‘Last Time’,
• Oxlade in the Best Vocal Performance Male with Ojuju.
• Tems ‘If Orange was a place’ won the best R&B Album category
• Fireboy’s ‘Peru’ won Best Afrobeats Single
• KCee & Okwesili Eze Group’s ‘Cultural Praise’ won Best Inspirational Song
• Ibejii won Best Alternative Album
• TG Omori won the Best Music Video Award for directing the music video shoot of Champion by Fireboy DML featuring D. Smoke.
• Sarz won producer of the year with ‘Monalisa’
• Flavour won Best Alternative song with ‘Doings’
• Ladipoe won Best rap single with ‘Feeling’.

Goya Menor won the StreetHop Artist Category for the club banger ‘Ameno Amapiano Remix’, while Rapper AQ, ‘The Last Cypher’ won him Lyricist on the Roll.

The Lifetime Achievement Award was received by D’banj, while Bose Ogulu, Efe Omorogbe, and Sunday Are also received the Special Recognition Awards.

Recall that the former love birds parted ways late last year over speculations of alleged cheating.

However, Stefflon Don in a post shared on her Instagram story on Sunday 7th August shed more light on why their relationship crashed.

According to the singer, she broke up with Burna Boy because of his ego, stressing that the ‘Twice as Tall’ crooner always sees his colleague, Wizkid as competition.

Stefflon Don added that Burna Boy can’t satisfy her in bed and bullied her the last time she spoke about the issue.

She wrote:

“I broke up with Burna Boy because he has a fragile ego. He sees his friend Wizkid as a competition, despite knowing Wizkid is bigger than he is. He can’t even satisfy me in bed. SMH. He bullied me the last time I wanted to talk, but not anymore.”

The award-winning entertainer said this during an interview on Shopping For Sneakers when he cleared the air about American singer Toni Braxton collecting a large percentage of the money made from the single.

Burna Boy included a sample of Braxton’s “He Was not Man Enough,” which he said played a significant role in his childhood.

Recall that Burna had shocked fans when he dropped a bombshell about Toni Braxton earning over 60% of the royalties from “Last Last“.

Burna Boy revealed this during an interview with the Million Dollaz Worth Of Game podcast and shared how the sample came to be.

However, in his new interview, Burna said people misunderstood what he meant when he said she takes 60% of whatever money comes from “Last Last“.

The ‘Kilometer’ hitmaker further explained that the songstress only takes home 60 per cent of part of the royalties of the song.

I’m a Burna Boy fan but I don’t think Last Last is bigger than Essence.

Also, I don’t agree that Tems made Essence a success.

When wizkid feature her, she only had two hit songs. ‘Try Me‘ and one other song am trying to recall.

Wizkid own the song and tems was only featured. She contributed little or nothing to the success of the song
