A lot of news have been coming from the Nollywood industry in lately and it’s been all about fake love and backstabbing.

Just after Kevin Ikeduba started the conversation, AY comedian jumped on it, sharing his thought as a young and growing actor in the industry.

Well, Nollywood actor and politician, Yul Edochie is the latest to share his thought as to the regard of “love in Nollywood.”

In a post he made on Twitter, Yul Edochie Tweeted, ‘they say there’s no love in Nollywood. I laugh. Brethren there’s no love anywhere, not only in Nollywood. The world is tough, it’s a jungle out here. My advice: Don’t wait for anyone to love you, love yourself, help yourself. Work hard, pray & do what’s right in the sight of God.’

In a different vein, Nollywood actress, Dayo Amusa has given us reasons why actors/celebrities should live fake lives on social media.

Speaking with the Punch, the actress initiated that the Nollywood profession is a make-believe art, so nothing is real about them.

Giving an illustration of how she is in her home and what she depicts on social media, the actress says she wouldn’t want to disappoint her fans.

SHE SAID:

You have to brand yourself and make people see that you can promote their products well through the lifestyle you depict. If that is what people mean by fake life then it is fine. As an artiste, we live in a make-believe world which means that 80 per cent of the things you see us do on screen and even on social media are make-believe.

It is totally different from my personality. I might be at home and choose to tie a piece of cloth round my waist and drink garri. But if I would go on social media, I would not want to do that because some of my fans would be disappointed.

I am not advising young women to pretend to be who they are not. What I am saying is that as an artiste, we need to ‘show’ for the business to grow. I am a very realistic person and I do not see myself as one of those fake ones.

So welcome to an industry where rivalry and fakeness is fast becoming a legacy designed for posterity. Welcome to a backstabbing community where some pretend to love you in the open and condenm all your determination and efforts to succeed when you are not there. Welcome to an industry where enmity reigns supreme… Eg “If you are using her in the movie, then i can’t be on it”, or “i can’t be in your film and not play the lead role”. Welcome to an industry where some actors have more visible roles on Instagram and Red Carpets. Welcome to an industry where some would maintain a position that would make you keep to yourself rather than ask for a selfie. Welcome to an industry where some cannot use their platforms to help another colleague to promote his or her work(including the ones they are contracted for). Welcome to an industry where most families mainly depend on public support when one of our own falls sick. Welcome to an industry where some engages themselves daily on WhatsApp groups chatting about how others have no business making movies (even when they break their own records back to back). Moving the industry forward goes beyond seeking for the downfall of others, or basking in the euphoria of an old glory that has been taken over by trend and time. Above all, i still see Nollywood as a special place; a place filled with creative geniuses.Working together and supporting ourselves can only make greater arts happen to the diverse audiences we all set out to entertain. But at the end of each plastic characters that comes with movie productions, let’s find a way to share our real side. It’ll either scare away every fake person in our life or it will inspire them to finally let go of that mirage called “perfection”

Ikeduba had posted a video accusing celebrities of not helping themselves.

“Barely few years in the industry, I have experienced all sorts from the stables of the high and mighty self-entitled ‘stakeholders’, to the very insecure individuals whose only claim to fame is an old testament fact of “We started this industry,” he wrote.
