He told a news conference in Port Harcourt on Sunday that there was no disagreement in the APC in the state.

“There is absolutely no disagreement in the APC. APC in Rivers state is united under the leadership of Mr Chibuike Amaechi.

“All of us in the party subscribe to his leadership and we have all agreed to subject ourselves to his leadership,” he said.

Peterside, the party`s governorship candidate in the 2015 election in Rivers, said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) used propaganda to create an impression that there was disagreement in the APC.

“What is going on is that the PDP has been churning out cheap, stale propaganda to paint a picture that there is division in the APC.

“It is easy to sell the story that Magnus Abe, the Senator representing my Senatorial district has formed his own camp of the APC. I am in regular touch with Abe and I can say there is no such thing.

“APC is one, united big family driven by the passion to offer Rivers people good governance,” he said.

Residents of Port Harcourt are appealing to the Rivers State government to give urgent attention to the poor medical facilities in the state-owned health institutions.
Resident doctors in the state have been on a warning strike since Tuesday, over an unresolved dispute with government.

But like similar actions in the past, this latest industrial dispute involving the resident doctors is targeted at better remunerations and residency training.

Expectedly those at the receiving end of the impasse between the aggrieved doctors and the State Government are the patients.

Under normal working conditions, BMSH receives almost 200 patients daily.

But currently, many patients are now forced to seek medical care at private hospitals at higher financial cost.

Meanwhile, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Doctor Paul Kua is appealing to the striking doctors not to drag the industrial action any further to give room for negotiations.

The leadership of the BMSH branch of Association of Resident Doctors was unavailable for comment.

But if all works according to plan, members of the body are expected back at work on Friday this week.

The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris has raised a team of detectives and experts to conduct a thorough investigation into the audio tape released by online medium SaharaReporters.

SaharaReporters claimed that the voice on the tape was that of Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, in which he said he would kill officials of the electoral commission who fail to honour their words to rig in his favour.

A statement in Abuja yesterday by the Force Spokesman, Don Awunah, stated that the investigative team is mandated to conduct forensic analysis on the audio report. It is also to look into the statement of the INEC chairman, Prof. Yakubu Mahmud that “there were 70 incidents that tended to derail the December 10, 2016 re-run elections in Rivers State.”

The police have also urged the government of Rivers State and INEC to avail the team available facts.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, says no date has been fixed for fresh legislative elections in Rivers State.

The state Resident Electoral Commissioner Aniedi Ikoiwak revealed this in an exclusive interview in Port Harcourt.

It is more than one month after the rerun election were cancelled in several areas, due to alleged electoral irregularities.

According to the INEC commissioner, several factors have continued to prevent the leadership of the electoral umpire in Abuja from rescheduling another rerun in Rivers State.

He noted that elections are capital-intensive national ventures and it is only when the required logistics are sorted out that the electorate in Rivers State would know when to return to the polls for the third time in barely one year.

Ikoiwak also said a new date for the Rivers rerun would depend on the timetable for other elections in the country this year.

Meanwhile, INEC said it is working in concert with the police to bring to book all of its personnel and ad-hoc staff who were allegedly involved in electoral fraud during last month?s rerun polls.

Following the nullification of about 80 elections in 16 states of the federation by the Court of Appeal, the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC ) on Tuesday announced dates for the conduct of rerun elections into federal and state constituencies and senatorial districts across the country, in a statement issued and signed by the Secretary of the Commission, Mrs. Augusta Ogakwu.

Then the affected elections, according to the commission, are to hold between February 13 and March 19, 2016.

The states where the rerun polls will hold include Taraba, Adamawa, Kaduna, Plateau, Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi, Abia, Imo, Anambra, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Rivers.

According to the statement, “stakeholders in the electoral process and public interests in the subject, INEC at its meeting held on Monday, February 1, 2016 considered and approved dates for the conduct of elections as ordered by the Court of Appeal.”

The commission however, said there would be no fresh primaries in constituencies where the court disqualified a candid‎ate based on improper conduct of the party primary.

The commission added that while elections in 69 constituencies of the affected states would be with the same political parties and their respective candidates who participated in the annulled elections, some political parties in 11 constituencies, cut across seven states, would not be participating in the rerun polls.
