According to reports, the student went with 10 others to Elegushi Beach in Lekki, Lagos to celebrate their achievement in the West African Examination Council School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) exam.

Chief Ayuba Elegushi, speaking on behalf of the beach management, revealed that the incident happened at a part of the beach that was unattended and not accessible to the general public.

He said while the beach authorities and security team turned them back, the boys took a detour and went to an unmanned section of the beach area to swim.

Sadly, he said, roughly 10 of them were on the verge of drowning when beach security was notified of the situation. Six of them were saved alive, but four were not so fortunate.

“The beach authority and security team turned the students back, the boys took a detour and went to an unmanned section of the beach area to swim,” the statement read.

“Unfortunately, about 10 of them were almost drowning before the beach security officers were alerted to the scene and six of them were rescued alive while four were still missing.

While the matter has been reported at the Ilasan Police Station, the effort is still on to find the missing boys.”

Nevertheless, Benjamin Hundeyin, Lagos police spokesperson, said ina tweet wrote,

“I’ve talked about drowning in relation to water travel and swimming pools. Still, parents/guardians, have a heart-to-heart talk with your teenagers to avoid losing them,” he tweeted.

“Four teenagers drowned at a Lagos beach today, after collecting their exam results in school. Take heed!”

Three staffs involved in the act have been suspended by the Nassarawa state government.

The principal, the compound master and the staff who posted the video of the punishment on the social media were suspended till further notice.

The state commissioner of Education, Ahmed Tijani confirmed yesterday January 18th, that the staffs are now on suspension and further investigation would lead to a final decision.

He said:

“Corporal punishment is not permissible in our public schools from now henceforth”. “If you watch the video you will understand what I mean, is completely cruelty to female students especially beaten on the back. We suspended the principal, compound master and a teacher because the class teacher posted the video clip on net.”

We have constituted a committee to investigate their matter and report back to the ministry in the next one week, to enable the ministry to take appropriate action”.

He added that the ministry had also written to all public schools informing the managements of the various schools on the ban on corporal punishment.

Command Secondary School, Ibadan is presently in a mourning mood following the murder of the commandant, allegedly strangled to death despite heavy security mounted by soldiers at the school.

The State Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, who confirmed the murder of the top military brass, said the police is treating the case as murder.

“I can confirm to you that the deceased was found dead in front of his apartment around 6.30am on Monday. We are treating it as a case of suspected murder.

The state Commissioner of Police, Samuel Adegbuyi, visited the school immediately the case was reported.

The police investigation had started and the investigating team is working with the Military Police investigating team. We have also beefed up security in the area,” DSP Ajisebutu said.

A close friend of the late Colonel said he was only promoted three weeks ago and was waiting to be decorated with his new rank.

“It is a pity that such a gentleman who was committed to his duty as a military officer and school commandant could be killed in a gruesome manner inside a military formation.

There are posts mounted by infantry soldiers from the gate of the school and visitors are not allowed except if you have a genuine mission there.

If the school commandant could be killed in such manner, how safe are the civilian staff and pupils who live in the school?

TVC E, NEWS – The tranquil atmosphere of Afe Babalola University, ABUAD, Ado Ekiti was shattered Sunday night as students suspected to be cultists destroyed property worth millions of naira on the campus.

No fewer than ten expensive cars and buses as well as the window panes of some buildings were smashed by the angry students.

TVC News Correspondent, Akin Ogunmola reports that although there has been tales of individual delinquent acts by ABUAD students, this is the first reported mob action by a group suspected to be cultists in the institution that prides itself as Nigeria’s leading private university .

Some of these vandalized vehicles belong to the founder and staff of the university while the internet centre of the institution was dealt a severe blow.

A member of the Board of Trustees of the institution gives an account of what is probably the remote cause of this rampage.

This unidentified ABUAD student narrates his experience on what he calls the night of terror on his campus.

Heavy security presence is still maintained on the campus to prevent further wanton destruction of property.
