Nigeria have named a team of four players to the 2016 International Table Tennis Federation Junior Circuit holding in Egypt from March 23 to 27.

The Nigeria Table Tennis Federation on Tuesday released the list of players headed by national cadet champion, Abayomi Animasahun. The other players in the team are Azeez Solanke, Sunday Akomolafe and Amadi Omeh. Animasahun was a part of the ITTF Hopes Team to the 2015 ITTF World Cadet Challenge in Egypt and will return there for a chance at the cadet title.

Nigeria is expected to compete in the cadet and junior events with the team which will be coached by Dotun Omoniyi.

The NTTF said the federation’s determination to expose the younger players to world-class tournaments informed the country’s participation in the competition. The tournament, which is tagged the Egypt Junior and Cadet Open, is one of the ITTF Junior Circuits and will feature over 250 players across the world.

He has again been affirmed with the heroic feat by former Africa’s number table tennis player.

The vastly experienced Nigeria table tennis player defeated Mawussi Agbetoglo of Togo by four straight sets of 11-7, 12-10, 11-9, 11-6.

Toriola’s impending appearance at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games will be the most by an African athlete.

After achieving the feat, the four-time All-African Games champion, who made his Olympic debut at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, said he was excited about the achievement as he never thought he could be playing in as much as seven Olympic Games in his career.

Toriola, who is honoured that he made history as the first African athlete to achieve such feat, said it was by no easy feat qualifying for the Games in Rio since he was playing under pressure, adding that as the tournament’s favourite, he was being cautious since most of the ping-pongers wanted to defeat him.
