BREAKING: Tribunal declares Adeleke Winner of Osun Election, Davido Reacts

Senator Ademola Adeleke of the People’s Democratic Party has been declared winner of the 2018 Governorship Elections held in Osun State.

This declaration was made by the Osun State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abuja. The tribunal also declared as illegal, the September 27, 2018 supplementary governorship election held in seven polling units.

The tribunal held that the supplementary election was a product of an illegal cancellation of the results in the seven polling units during the September 22, 2018 Main election. It ruled that the Returning Officer who cancelled the results had no power to do so.

The Peoples Democratic Party and its governorship candidate, Ademola Adeleke, in the election had filed the petition urging the tribunal to declare that Adeleke polled the highest lawful votes and be declared the winner.

The chairman of the Tribunal held that the certificate of return issued to Adegboyega Oyetola is hereby withdrawn.

Kogi: Hearing begins Monday in Faleke’s petition

TVC E, POLITICS – The Kogi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal will on Monday commence hearing in the petitions challenging the election of Yahaya Bello of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as governor of the state.

It was reliably gathered that six petitions were filed before the tribunal now sitting in Abuja following fear of insecurity in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.

On Tuesday, tribunal Chairman, Justice Halima Muhammed announced that parties would adopt reports of their pre-hearing sessions beginning from Monday (March 14), following which trial will commence.

The chairman said the tribunal will take the objections to the petition along with the substantive petition.

Parties in the petitions told the Tribunal that they will be calling two witnesses each to prove their cases in the petition challenging Governor Bello’s election.

On February 23, 2016, the Tribunal fixed dates for pre-hearing sessions in the six petitions filed by different parties challenging the outcome of the last governorship election held in the state.

Upon agreements by lawyers in the petitions, including Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), (Alex Iziyon –SAN), (for the Independent National Electoral Commission), Mahmud Magaji (SAN), (for Yahaya Bello), Chris Uche (SAN), (Idris Wada and Peoples Democratic Party), among others agreed to ensure that all the necessary processes were filed before the next dates.

The first petition mentioned was the one by James Faleke against INEC and Bello. Faleke who ran as running mate to the late governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abubakar Audu, is seeking to be declared winner of the election on among other grounds, that his joint ticket with the late Audu won the election.

The second petition was the one filed by Idris Wada (immediate past governor of the state), his deputy, Yomi Awoniyi and their party, the PDP against Bello, APC and INEC.

Pre-hearing session will be held on Wednesday (tomorrow) in the third and fourth by Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) and Labour Party (LP), while those by Usman Zainab and her party, the African Development Party (ADP), and Akwu Umar Goodman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) have been fixed for March 11, 2016.

Faleke absent at Yahaya Bello’s inuauguration

TVC E, POLITICS – The deputy Governorship Candidate to Prince Abubakar Audu during the November 21,2015 Governorship election in Kogi State, Hon James Faleke has stayed away from the inauguration of Yahaya Bello as the governor of the state.

Yahaya Bello on Wednesday took oath of office as the new governor of the state after defeating the then incumbent governor Idris Wada during the December 5 Supplementary Poll.

Faleke had earlier this morning raised the alarm over attempts to mischievously announce his name as Deputy Governor during the swearing in ceremony of Alhaji Yahaya Bello as Governor of Kogi State.

According to Faleke in a statement signed by the Director, Media and Publicity, Audu/Faleke Campaign Organisation, Hon Duro Meseko, the plan was hatched for Bello to escape the obvious lacuna of not running the Supplementary election with a Deputy and also to give some form of legitimacy to the apparent unconstitutionality of the action.

“I want to bring to the attention of Nigerians plans to call me out to take oath of allegiance as Deputy Governor to Alhaji Yahaya Bello today in Lokoja since it is the Deputy that takes oath first. The mischievous script is to announce my name for oath taking at least three times after which they would declare that the deputy Governor-elect has absconded but would be sworn in at a later date. They would now go ahead to swear in Bello as the the Governor”, he stated.

According to Faleke, ” let me make it very clear to the good people of Kogi State and Nigerians in general that I am not Deputy to Yahaya Bello and will therefore not be present today at his inauguration. I had made my position abundantly clear to my party, the All Progressives Congress ( APC ) and Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC ) that I will not serve as Deputy to Bello, neither would I participate in the December 5, 2015 Supplementary election.

A strongly worded letter was written to the leadership of APC and INEC to back up my position. It is therefore the height of political mischief for anyone to attempt to call my name for oath taking at an inauguration ceremony they know I would not be present “.

Hon Faleke restated his faith in the judiciary to restore back the Governorship mandate which he said rightly belong to the Audu / Faleke team.
