The Weeknd has achieved a remarkable milestone, becoming the sole artist with two albums in Spotify’s top five most streamed albums of all time. Chart Data reported and Chart Masters confirmed this on Wednesday, revealing that The Weeknd’s albums “Starboy” and “After Hours” hold the third and fifth positions respectively. “Starboy,” released in 2016, boasts an impressive 14 billion streams, while “After Hours,” from 2020, follows closely behind with 12.2 billion streams.
Meanwhile, in philanthropic news, The Weeknd, appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations World Food Program in 2021, has made another substantial donation to support the people of Palestine amid ongoing conflict. On Monday, he allocated $2 million from his XO Humanitarian Fund to provide essential food aid to Gazans affected by the Israel-Hamas conflict. This contribution will provide 1,500 metric tons of fortified wheat flour, equivalent to 18 million loaves of bread, feeding over 157,000 people.
This recent act of generosity follows The Weeknd’s earlier donation of $2.5 million in emergency meals to the same cause in December. World Food Program USA’s President and CEO, Barron Segar, emphasized the importance of addressing hunger as a solvable issue with sufficient funding and safe access. Likewise, Corinne Fleischer, WFP’s Director for the Middle East, North Africa, and Eastern Europe Region, expressed gratitude for The Weeknd’s support, highlighting its critical relief for Palestinian families facing hunger amidst dire circumstances.
