Wizkid’s ‘Essence’ Attains Gold Certification in France

Wizkid, the global sensation, achieved another milestone as his 2020 hit ‘Essence’ is now certified gold in France, marking a significant accomplishment for Nigerian music and contributing to the continued global ascent of Afrobeats.

This certification adds to a series of international recognitions, solidifying ‘Essence’ as one of the most internationally certified African songs.

Originally featured in Wizkid’s Grammy-nominated fourth album ‘Made In Lagos,’ ‘Essence’ garnered widespread commercial success, earning it global recognition. With the added boost from the Justin Bieber remix, the single reached No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and climbed to No. 16 on the UK Official Singles chart. Notably, the song has received platinum certifications in the US, UK, Switzerland, Canada, and South Africa.

Nominated for the 2021 Grammys in the category of Best Global Music Performance, ‘Essence’ boasts an impressive track record, having won 10 awards, including the 2021 BET award for Best Collaboration and the 2021 Soul Train award for Song of the Year, as documented on its Wikipedia page.
