Ijebu indigenes celebrate Ojude Oba festival in the rain

TVC E. The annual festival of the Ijebu indigenes was held on Wednesday. The indigenes of Ijebu from all over the world, converged at the palace of the Awujale, Oba (Dr) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, for the celebration of the annual Ojude Oba festival.

The annual festival is always held after the Eid-el-Kabir festival, and it is always attended by every indigene of the kingdom, who parade themselves in a carnival-like walks.

During the event, our correspondent saw an array of Ijebu people who were really proud of their heritage and were seen cheering the Awujale despite the heavy rain that besieged most parts of the state. Roads were locked down with traffic congestions and people who got in late were prevented from entering the place where the action was taking place.

Gunshot, horse ride, fanfare, dance, song among other events, categorised the height of the people’s excitement as they could not stop showing their appreciation to God and their royal father, Oba Adetona, for another successful year’s celebration. They also received royal blessings from the Awujale and the best way to describe the people was that there was glee all over their faces.

Among other personalities present at the palace were the governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El Rufai; Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa state and the host governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun during the Ijebu festival.
