Senate recommends prosecution of Babachir Lawal

The Senate has recommended for prosecution the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal after its ad-hoc committee’s report indicted him for allocating 530 million naira contracts to his personal company.

The upper chamber says it resisted political pressure from outside and within the National Assembly to step down the report, as TVC News’ Sumner Sambo reports.

The Adhoc Committee on Mounting Humanitarian Crisis in the Northeast says it discovered a brazen theft of public funds through allocation of funds to companies owned by public officials like suspended SGF Babachir Lawal.

It urged the Senate to accept all its twelve recommendations which sought the prosecution of indicted officials and companies.

After the presentation, senators wasted no time in adopting all recommendations despite what they termed political pressure.

They tasked security agencies to urgently prosecute Babachir who they accused of using kickbacks from the grass-cutting contract to sponsor protesters against Senators.
