This helps give people early treatment, cure, a better chance at management and care before complications.
There are many screening tests commonly used,
- Screening for early diagnosis of cancer
- Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) screen for congenital hypothyroidism in newborns,
- Cholesterol level screen for heart disease
- Urine drug screen
- Blood pressure screen for hypertension
- Abdominal aortic aneurysm screening.
- Harmful alcohol use screening.
- Colorectal cancer screening.
- Dental checkup.
- Depression screening.
- Hearing tests.
There now appear to be four main aims of screening, although seven terms are used to describe them:
- Case-finding
- Mass screening
- Multiphasic screening
- Opportunistic screening
- Periodical health examination
- Prescriptive screening and
- Targeted screening.
