Controversial Nigerian entertainer Speed Darlington, popularly known as Akpi, has come under intense fire after a disturbing livestream in which he claimed to have had sex with a 15-year-old girl. Now, the artist says it was all a publicity stunt to promote his new song.
In a follow-up video, Speed Darlington attempted to clarify his earlier remarks, stating bluntly:
“Fans, followers have been upset at me for making a video saying that I BLEEP a fifteen-year-old. This video is for all of you — I’m an artiste and I need controversy to eat… Nobody books someone who isn’t trending and I have a new song — a song about sex.”
He further explained:
“This is my genre. I don’t do Christian music. I drop sex songs and I need content to push it. That’s what I was doing. Don’t give it more light than it’s supposed to have, okay? If anyone’s offended, apologies.”
Despite his attempt at damage control, the backlash has been swift and fierce. Social media has erupted with anger, with many Nigerians calling for his immediate arrest.
The Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has since confirmed that the matter is being looked into and is currently under investigation.
While Speed Darlington insists the confession was fake and purely for hype, many are questioning the ethics and legality of using such sensitive issues for music promotion.
