Speed Darlington Faces Legal Threat from NAPTIP Over Viral Video, Ignores Summons

Controversial Nigerian musician Speed Darlington may soon face legal action from NAPTIP (National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons) after he ignored an official summons to appear at the agency’s Abuja office on Friday, May 30, 2025.

The agency’s move follows a viral video in which Speed Darlington allegedly claimed to have had sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl—a statement that triggered widespread public outrage and concern over child protection laws.

Despite a formal invitation signed by NAPTIP’s Head of Cybercrime Response Team, Ngamaraju Mangzha, Speedy failed to show up or offer any explanation for his absence. Officials confirmed that no communication had been received from him.

Speaking anonymously, a NAPTIP official said the agency is still waiting but is prepared to pursue prosecution or arrest, as clearly stated in the notice: “Failure to honour this invitation may result in further legal action.”

NAPTIP’s Chief Press Officer, Adekoye Vincent, revealed that Director-General Binta Bello is personally monitoring the case due to its serious implications for child rights and sexual abuse allegations. He also condemned Speed Darlington’s latest video where the artist made another disturbing comment involving minors.

With national jurisdiction, NAPTIP is now under pressure to act, especially after the Lagos State Government referred the matter due to jurisdictional limitations.
