TVC E, NEWS – The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC,  Ibrahim Magu has again accused some senior lawyers of working against the commission in the fight against corruption.

Speaking during a dialogue with key civil society organisations in Lagos, he says the lawyers have continued to lend their skills and expertise to corrupt politicians who have allegedly looted the nation’s treasury.

Our Political Correspondent Ayodele Ozugbakun reports that since Magu assumed office as the acting chairman of the EFCC three months ago, he has left no one in doubt about his resolve to salvage the lost glory of the commission by going after politically exposed Nigerians .

Several politicians involved in the 2.1 billion dollars arms deal saga are currently being prosecuted by the commission.

The commission, identifying the civil society as a critical stakeholder in its crusade met with leaders of the pressure groups to enlists their support.

Magu in his address lamented that monies earmarked to prosecute the war against insurgency are shared by top military officers.

The acting chairman of the commission and the deputy director operations identified legal practitioners as constituting stumbling blocks to successful prosecution of the war against corruption.

The civil society leaders used the opportunity to point out areas which the commission can effectively minimize the level of graft among public office holders.
