To restore the public schools in Ondo State to their former glory, the state administration has warned teachers not to enrol their children in private schools.
The request was made necessary because of the declining enrollment in public elementary schools across the state, according to the State Chairman of the Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Hon. Victor Olabimtan.
Olabimtan claims that despite the government’s investment in elementary education across the state, concerns about the development were stated in a statement signed by the board’s head of publicity and information services, Bisi Agboola.
According to Olabimtan, if teachers are serious about bringing back public education, they should work with the state government and permit their kids to go to public schools.
The statement READS, “The SUBEB chairman condemned in strong terms the attitude of some teachers taking their biological children to private schools and admonished them to send their wards to public schools in the state.
“ The Ondo state government will not relent in its efforts to upgrade school standards as well as its personnel.
He urged the education secretaries of the 18 local government areas to report any teachers who were found to be unsatisfactory in their positions of responsibility without delay for potential punishment.
As a result, the chairman gave the teachers instructions to buckle down, take action in the enrollment campaign, and avoid any indolence.
The statement also noted that serving elementary school teachers can now achieve level-16 status, much like their civil service counterparts, thanks to approval from the state administration.
It added, “it means they can be considered for the position of permanent secretary when such a vacancy is announced.”
Additionally, 2,111 teachers, 85 of whom teach at the 16th-grade level, received letters of promotion.
Olabimtan applauded the state governor, Akeredolu, for delivering UBEC Counterpart financing, which had previously gone unfulfilled for about five years. This cash allowed for the extensive rehabilitation and furnishing of schools as well as their vast reconstruction.
Alhaji Abimbola Omo-Oloja, the state PTA chairman, praised the governor for his interest in making education a priority in his response.
Omo-Oloja called for the reinstatement of extracurricular activities in schools and vowed the unwavering support of parents at all times.
