Superhero Comics From Nigeria Set To Feature At Lagos Comic Con 2022

Founder of Lagos comic con, Ayodele Elegba featured in today’s edition of WUN to discuss the upcoming convention set to hold in Lagos.

The remarkable growth of Nigeria’s comics and animation industry. In the last decade, a new generation of comic artists and animators has emerged, inspired by historical figures, myths, and everyday Nigerian life.

And the repercussions are being felt in New York, the home of the massively popular Marvel and DC comics, Mr Ayodele Elegba started it here in Nigeria to give comic fans a platform to connect and feel and home.

However, Lagos comic Convention which is Africa’s largest Geek and pop culture marketplace was launched in 2012 with just about 300 guests and it has become West Africa’s #1 destination for comic book geeks, book readers, avid music listeners, movie lovers, gaming fans, art lovers.

However, the genre of Superhero Comic rose to prominence in the 1930s and became extremely popular in the 1940s and has remained the dominant form of comic book in North America since the 1960s.

Superhero comics feature stories about superheroes and the universes these characters inhabit.

The Lagos Comic Convention features the core areas of the broader creative industry like comics, books, gaming, film, animation and even VR.
It has also become the #1 platform used for people in the creative industry to connect with their audiences and sell their products.
According to its founder, Mr Ayodele Elegba, since its inception, the objective has been to create platforms of businesses for practitioners in the Creative Industry  (comics, animation, gaming, books, film and virtual reality), celebrate successes of the industry, shape conversations in the industry, encourage broader participation and support the building of knowledge and capacity necessary to strengthen the sector and ultimately create jobs.
